"Working at Ramah Day Camp in Philadelphia has been one of the most transformative and meaningful experiences of my life. For someone like me, who struggles with anxiety, stepping into a new environment can be daunting. When I first arrived, it wasn’t just a new camp—it was a completely different experience from what I was used to. I didn’t know a single person, which made my anxiety even more intense. But from the moment I stepped through the gates, I realized this was a special place, one that would change my life in ways I couldn’t have imagined.

The first thing I noticed was how genuinely welcoming everyone was. At RDC, it doesn’t matter if you’re new or returning—everyone is treated like family. My anxiety, which often makes me feel out of place in unfamiliar settings, seemed to melt away as I was met with smiles, encouragement, and understanding. Despite not knowing anyone at first, I quickly felt embraced by the camp community. Fellow staff members went out of their way to introduce themselves and make me feel included, while campers’ enthusiasm and warmth made every interaction feel uplifting. The Sensory Room is where campers and staff can go if they ever feel overwhelmed during the day. There is a member of the Tikvah Staff Team and tons of fidgets you can take with you to camp programs. I wish I had these things when I was at camp as a camper to help support me when I felt overwhelmed and needed a break. Knowing that RDC provides this kind of support made me feel even more at home, reinforcing that this camp is where everyone’s needs are valued and accommodated.

One of the most inspiring aspects of Ramah Day Camp is the Tikvah Program, which works with kids of all abilities and needs. This program ensures that every child, regardless of their challenges, gets to fully participate in camp life. At RDC, inclusion isn’t just a concept—it’s a reality. Kids in the Tikvah Program are not separated; instead, they are embraced as part of the broader community. They form friendships, take part in activities, and experience the joy of camp just like everyone else. Watching this unfold has been one of the most beautiful and meaningful parts of my experience. It reinforces the idea that every child is special and has something unique to contribute.

Beyond the incredible community, RDC gave me something even more valuable: clarity about my passion. Working with the campers each day, I realized how much joy and fulfillment I find in helping children grow, learn, and thrive. Whether it’s leading activities, supporting them through challenges, or simply sharing laughs during meals, every moment feels meaningful. Watching the kids develop new skills, build friendships, and embrace their identities reminded me why this work matters so much.

Starting at a camp where I knew nobody was intimidating, but it also allowed me to grow in ways I never expected. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me discover strengths I didn’t know I had. The staff and campers at RDC created an environment where I could truly be myself and, in doing so, find my purpose.

For anyone considering working at RDC, I can only say this: it’s more than a job—it’s an experience that will change your life. It’s a place where you’ll find not only your strengths but also the people who help you shine. For me, RDC isn’t just where I work—it’s where I’ve found my purpose."
