Behavior Policy
Machane Ramah Yomi abides by the following policies regarding physically and verbally aggressive behavior.
Physical aggressive behavior is defined as: intentional hitting (body or object), biting, pushing, kicking, spitting, tripping.
Verbal aggressive behavior is defined as: continued/prolonged swearing/disrespectful language directed at tzevet (staff) or chanichim (campers).
The Two- Strike Policy
When a chanich/a exhibits physically or verbally aggressive behavior, their madrich/a (counselor) or Rosh (unit head) must contact Camper Care immediately. Camper Care will assess whether the behavior warrants a strike.
Strike 1:
The chanich/a will be temporarily removed from their tzrif (bunk) and will meet with Camper Care and their Rosh to discuss appropriate behavior before rejoining the group.
Camper Care will contact the chanich/a’s parent to inform them of the incident and explain the Two-Strike system. Parents will be asked to share any effective strategies for helping their child de-escalate, which will be shared with the Rosh. Documentation will be entered into CampMinder.
Strike 2:
The chanich/a will again be removed from the tzrif. Camper Care will call the parent to inform them that their child must be picked up, as two strikes have been reached despite proactive strategies (such as reminders, redirection, or cool-down time). A member of the Tikvah tzevet will stay with them until a parent arrives, and documentation will be made in Campminder.
If Two Strikes Occur More Than Twice:
If a chanich/a is sent home for reaching two strikes more than twice during the kayitz (summer), Camper Care and the Leadership Team will meet to assess whether RDC remains an appropriate setting for the chanich/a.
